Incarnation: Poetry and Prose

My daughter wrote a book. She asked me to illustrate it.

Incarnation: An Exploration of Being Alive is a collection of poetry and prose written by Abri Kenin-words that explore motherhood, belonging, purpose, and what it means to be fully alive.

This vulnerable and beautiful collection of Abri’s words has been a true labor of love.

Asking (insisting!) that I create the illustrations meant more to me than I can express.

Art has been part of me for as long as I can remember, but for many reasons I stopped growing and sharing that part of me.

Then came Luna Grace. Abri’s daughter, my granddaughter. Three generations of women, each reminding the others of the importance of creating, expressing, and becoming who we were meant to be.

This is Abri’s book, her words, her vision and her beautiful accomplishment. I am simply grateful and proud to have my markings alongside her words, to be her Mama, and Luna’s Nana.

Our shared hope is that Incarnation encourages others to pay attention to what makes them feel alive-and especially to give children the freedom and encouragement to express what is already inside them.
